I believe that an artist’s work is their interpretation of the world around them mingling with their own little worlds. In my own work, one of the most important things is the mood of the subject. I draw inspiration from nature, femininity, and surrealism to create atmospheric compositions that highlight the subject.
I usually like to start with a feeling, then I will use that to develop as many ideas as I can. I keep in mind stories, symbols, words, and phrases that relate to the project while sketching out compositions. I almost always draw in graphite and paint in watercolor because I love the flow and the textures they create. I often use other mediums as well. I like to create textural atmospheres to convey emotion, and watercolor especially never fails to help me do this. I want to create imagery that speaks the language of our emotions.
